Man arrested for alleged shooting in Dekalb County

It is often best to try to work out arguments peacefully inside one’s own home, and to try to let cooler heads prevail. However, one argument seems to have led to a man being charged with alleged domestic violence after the death of a 20-year-old Georgia woman.

The 20-year-old woman was found in Dekalb County just outside a residence. Witnesses claim that they saw a man shoot the woman and then area in a car.

Since that time, a 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, but was not immediately charged. Police stated that the two individuals in this case have been involved in previous domestic disturbances. Additionally, police also have received reports that the two individuals had been arguing earlier in the day.

Anyone facing domestic assault charges, no matter what they are, could benefit from a full understanding of their legal rights and obligations. If a defendant faces a domestic violence conviction, there are often serious consequences that aren’t explicitly included in the sentence, including a damaged personal or professional reputation.

Oftentimes, allegations related to domestic violence stem from an argument that got out of hand or could be construed as self-defense. Further, even when there is a death involved, there are often significant defenses that can be put forth, for example, arguing that the defendant lacked the requisite mental state to perform whatever crime he or she is being accused of.

Facing domestic assault charges should always be taken seriously. Seeking help can provide reassurance that the criminal process will proceed and conclude in a fair manner.
