When someone is pulled over at a traffic stop, they usually do not attempt to flee the scene. However, even if a person does flee, most people would not expect to be shot at by the police for it.
A woman is accused of attempting to flee from police near Atlanta, on Skelton Road near the intersection of Bowman Road. The woman allegedly attempted to flee from the traffic stop and allegedly hit an officer and two police cars in the process. The officers then opened fire on her as she was leaving the scene. The woman was then found and reported about half a mile from the traffic stop with at least one gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital for her injuries. It was not immediately known if the officer who was allegedly hit required medical attention, nor was did initial reports indicate what, if any, criminal charges the woman is potentially facing.
Serious charges, including felonies, must be dealt with immediately. However, if the police either overreacted or somehow broke the law in either trying to apprehend a suspect or collect evidence, it is likely even serious charges will have to be dropped or drastically reduced. For that reason, beginning to craft a sound defense strategy immediately can result in plenty of ways that fines or prison time can be drastically reduced. This can be especially true if a suspect is somehow injured by police, because that suspect may even be able to seek a remedy for the injuries incurred, besides simply having the charges dropped.
After being accused of a crime, it is usually best to say nothing or as little possible. Doing so may ensure the best chance to be able to get charges reduced or thrown out entirely.
